Chaukori

Chaukori is a hill station in the Pithoragarh district ,set among the lofty peaks of the western Himalayan Range in the Kumaon Division of Uttarakhand, India. It is surrounded by Tibet in the North and Sarai in the South. The Mahakali River runs along its eastern boundary forms the Indo-Nepal international border. This place has become a prominent tourist place and from here , a wide and picturesque view of Himalayan range can be viewed.
Chaokori is located in Berinag Tehsil of Pithoragarh district in Uttarakhand, India. It is situated 10km away from sub-district headquarter Berinag and 84km away from the district headquarter Pithoragarh. Chaukori is spread over 8.3618 square km. It is 6590 ft or (2010m) above the sea level.
It has spectacular panoramic views of the snowy peaks of Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot and the Panchachuli group.
Gangolihat, 35km away , is one of the important religious centre with the Hat-Kalika Temple.
Chaokori is well-connected with motorable roads to major destinations in Kumaon.
From Howrah , two trains are available - Howrah-Lalkuan Express (Every Friday) and Howrah-Bagh Express. Howrah-Lalkuan Express departs from Howrah at 8:15 and reaches Lalkuan at 7:40 the next day. Howrah-Bagh Express departs from Howrah at 21:45 and reaches Kathgodam at 9:25 two days later. Howrah-Lalkuan express is the most preferable express train.
Private vehicles are available from both the stations. Chaukori is 215km away from Lalkuan and it takes around 7 hours to travelling. The journey can be broken into two parts, Lalkuan to Nainital which is 60km and from Nainital to Chaukori which is 173km. From Kathgodam Chaukori is 198km away.
Preferable time to visit Chaukori is during the winter vacations. Snowfall occurs during the month of January-March.
Government cottages are available for the travellers and many private hotels are also there. Try to book the government cottages as they provide the best panoramic view.
If you are planning to visit Chaukori then carry some snacks with you. Food is available there but the cost is too high. If you are milk lover then it is paradise for you. You will get the thickest milk produced by the households.
